6. BUSHO COMPETITION PROGRAM

The pre-jury have made their decision: HERE IS THE PROGRAM OF THE COMPETITION 2010. For now it lists all the participants the screening schedule will be announced at a later stage. There is one award already decided who to go to, the best selection award that is. Obviously we won’t give out the name of the winner but the nominations list only. According to the law of math and their outstanding work the most shorts came from Spain but there will be at least one Hungarian work in each screening section. Beside the fiction movies there are 15 animation and 10 experimental works that made it to the competition. Again all registered Hungarian (that of match our entry requirements) shorts will be showcased off competition along with several other works in the frame of Panorama section.

BUSHO VIVAZ SPOT COMPETITION 2010

After the successful 2nd LifeAd shortfilm competition here comes Busho's next call which is announced together with Sony Ericsson! The aim of this call is shot the main spot of the 6th BuSho festival with Sony Ericsson brand new model the HD equipped Vivaz camera. The 3 best competitor and the one gets the public's vote can take the device home! Regulations and Entry Form!

We were a bit worried as 2 days before deadline there weren’t enough registration, then once again the Hungarian spirit has been confirmed and in the last few hours the registrations doubled up. Eventually 31 out of 40 sketches were decided to be worth of use, so the makers start the work on the 21st which lasts until 21-July and consist of 3 stages. The finalized spots should be registered and sent to us by midnight 1-August.

BUSHO ENTRY 2010

The deadline for entries was 1st of May. At 90% of the processing we count 455 shorts from 50 countries, the category breakdown is 80 of both animation and experimental, and nearly 300 of fiction but exact details coming soon. No surprise in the top entering nations this year again, as the same 3 countries count the most entries but in a different order. This time Spain registered the most entries followed by Germany and Hungary on 3rd which is surprising though. Some details may change, because we have not recieved all the works as yet, but made a list of the missing details. The pre-jury soon start their work and as usual the list of the competition will be announced by mid-June.

The AZYL shortfilm festival of Bratislava again calls for entries to the Advertising Life competition, which like last year will be hosted by BuSho festival for the second time. The goal of this call is to get 1 minute shorts from makers that is related to their slogen „reklama na ľivot" roughly means advertising life. This year’s subject is: 20 years of freedom!? BEEN TO PARTNERFESTIVALS

The Brno16 festival did not let us down again as just like them visiting us years after years so do we, with it’s well known venues and high standard programs the Czechs have put on a great show once again. The A.RE.S. festival in Siracusa, Italy has shown some imperfection, but the astonishing venue Ortigia (the shooting of Malena by Tornatore was taking place here) made us to see over the insignificant bloopers, although we could not manage to bring home some award. But overall the muster of Cornwall has outshone everything. It was a well organized international competition where we were a member of the jury of the local competition and also succesfully represented this year’s BuSho award winning works. One of our team members Ferenc Görögh translator who took part of it said: „The festival is a very well organized event taking place at a stunning landscape, and with the technical facilities and support they ought to go on a wider intrnational field to extend their popularity and draw more attention to what they do”. And at last but not least Zoltán Gergely (member of the BuSho pre-jury) was at the festival in Cracow, Poland who also returned with valuable experience.

MERCI BEAUCOUP LIKA! THANK YOU ILDIKÓ!

During the making of the reference booklet of the 5.BuSho, just like in the previous years, we asked our guests to share any pictures, photos were taken at the festival. It was Lika Banshoya the female member of the lovely french couple who reacted first of the many and created an album on Facebook. As soon as I saw the photos I forwarded the link to the management of the Vörösmarty cinema who were also astonished: „...we have recieved the photos with many thanks. We just love this lady even unkowingly, we didn’t realize that we run such an interesting cinemaJBeside this I would love to express my thankfulness to another lady for her jury report, because Ildikó Enyedi highlighted the essence of the festival with such a precise description that from now we shall use a quote from that as our slogan when applying for sponsoring tenders and hope that we could make experts believe that this festival has got some ground for existence.

BUSHO MIGRATION TOUR IS TO START

After the 5th Busho festival we recieved more invitations to partner festivals, film clubs, and workshops than ever. Taking these into consideration with our existing partners, the list of the promotion spots of the Busho festival is getting finalized for autumn. For instance festivals in Tinkla, Lithuania and Drama, Greece have ran it’s course then we will get back to the newly known yet beloved Banska Stiavnica, Slovakia. In middle of October for the 5th time we will promote Busho on the jubilee 50th Brno 16 festival. After that comes a festival in Sicily, Italy that was held in 3 different venue over the last 3 years to which Busho delegates a member of the jury for the second time. Finally we introduce ourselves to MAFF in Oradea, Romania who's team participated in the summer workshop of ours GomBuSho and to the perfidous albion in Cornwall. Furthermore there are negotiations on the go with other organizations but these are not due untill 2010.

FINAL AND DETAILED PROGRAM OF ARES

We reported earlier of a brand new art festival called ARES has been launched in the historical city of Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. It is held between 22-26 of October. After Busho's debut at Magma Festival in 2007 and it's success in Marzamem (where we won a Márton Szirmai special prize for Tripe and Onions) we are visiting the mediterranean island to astonish the adept Italian spectators. Owing to the invitations we sent out in the summer there were plenty of works been screened on Busho and it seems that one of the Godfathers made good friend with Mr. Szirmai because he managed to get into the competition yet again with his animation entitled Couple of Number.

After fulfilling their month and a half long assignment - the pre-jury of the 5th BuSho has completed their task. Likewise to last year's program they selected 94 movies in total for entering the competition. In category breakdown it means 61 fiction, 20 animation and 13 experimental work.
We would like to give the opportunity to the all the movies to be shown that did not make it to the competition due to it's 15 hours time limitation, so these films will be screened in an informational section. However with the Hungarian works we return to our basic and main conception that all Hungarian filmsthat entered will be shown to provide their makers with an opportunity to show themselves for an international audience. EVENTUALLY BUSHO CINECLUB

Our regulars expected it a long ago... Here it comes then. The BuSho cineclub is particularly to put pieces on screen that have been shown only in the information block, therefore a very few of you had the chance to see them.   Each year some pieces miss to make it to the competition program by the skin of their teeth, moreover due to the huge amount of entries over the past two years – the field of the information block is getting stronger.  Apart from screening the awarded pieces and the categorycal selections, we are also planning to do a country specific section of the one counting the most entries. We believe that there is a lot to squeeze into the occasional 4 hour show. According to our plan, after each of these shows the pieces will be evaluated by  some experts that are the former members of the pre-jury and members of the international jury.

AZYL-BUSHO: DON'T LOSE YOUR HEAD!

The organizers of the Azyl Festival in Bratislava and of the BuSho in Budapest are fed up with the political debates, and they decided that they would try to prove (first of all on a cultural scene): Yes, there’s a normal Slovak-Hungarian relation-though this is not what we hear from the media… So the first step of the Azyl-BuSho cooperation is a call, of which point is that the applicants make 1 minutes short films related to the motto „reklama na zivot” – life-ad(d). The titles and topics are chosen within the syllabus Hungarian-Slovak relation. www.azyl.sk

Film camp at Faludi Ferenc Academy

The camp between 1-8. July gives possibility to every youngster who would like to have a deeper insight to filmmaking to test his/ her abilities  and to work their ideas out, with the leadership and backup of some excellent authorities. The camp is related to the Academy’s amateurish film-festival, because its goal – among others- is to give the unprofessional talents a chance to develop their technisal skills and after making up their arrears so that they can apply to the festival entitled „Trust” of the Academy.  The event is going to be homed by the Piliscsaba campus again. The right technical background makes sure that every idea becomes reality. There will be discourses and consultations about various topics, and every day will be concluded by common filmwatching. Those who feel enough audacity, ask wit Trust the Faludi Academy for further information. http://www.faludiakademia.hu/?m=1&am=22

After the analysis of the statistics of last years (2005- 94 films, 2006- 171 films, 2007-360 films) it is not such a great surprise that the number of the entries to BuSho 2008 is over half thousand, precisely it is 580! Dessecting the lists: we got films from 61 countries, the ’winners’ are: the golden medal goes to Germany (66 entries), the silver goes to UK (64 films), and at the third place we find Hungary with its 54 films handed.

The Spot got into the final of the Méribel Ad Festival 2007 (http://www.meribel-adfestival.com) in the category of ads and got into short list at Golden Blade 2008 (http://www.maksz.com).

BUSHO SCREENINGS AT THE DÓZER FESTIVAL

The survival of Busho is due to Kultiplex in a sense, because we spent our first 2 years (2005, 2006) there. We immediately signed in our intention to participate to Dózerfestival somehow when we heard about the idea of it. The last event of the screening-series of 3 projections is going to be the showing of the 2007 „BESTOF Selection”, 17. February, Sunday. We want to say goodbye and thank you to Kulti this way.

The number of shorts entered to the festival has been doubled again this year -just as in 2006, so we have 360 films- a number not negligible even at an international rate. These 70 hours of motion picture caused some difficulties to the pre-jury, but they heightened the nivo of the festival at the same time. The 116 films of the competition program have been put into 22 blocks which cover all 4 days of the festival - setting a hard task to the international jury. See the schedule

THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN FLARED

The final competition program of the 3. BuSho festival is finally born! The pre-jury (Mag-Rimóczi-Ganczer) worked hardly for more than a week, watched 350 films (60 hours) and made its all-time hardest final decision. The number of the entered films has been the double of those of 2006. Unfortunately the competition program has scarce time, so we created a new category: outlined information blocks in honour of the many excellent films.

Parade awards related to BUSHO:

- The prize of the best director at the 38. Hungarian Film Parade was given to Szász János for Opium- diary of an insane woman. We assume that the idea of the film was busted from the brain of the director when he wakened from his extasy after the viewing of Ballads of Szexard...
- The award of best actress was given to Kovács Kata for her performance in Kythera - probably her success is caused partly by the positive aura of a certain side-acting football hooligan...
- Certificate of merit: Igor and Ivan Buharov for " Slow Mirror" - because we like the films dancing on the edge of the razor which divide the public opinion...
- The prize of best camera-man of the jury of the shorts:  was got by the cameraman of Alterego, Tóth Widamon Máté. This autumn the flat interiors are going to have great role even in our lives...

"Master" riddle: what's that?

It was present at various festivals 83 times, got 40 prizes and now it has an Oscar nomination. The solution is: MAESTRO.
The animated short film lasting almost 5 minutes of M. Tóth Géza was chosen among the best 5 by the American Film Academy. After 26 years when Ferenc Rófusz won an Oscar with his animated cartoon entitled The fly now the director teaching at the faculty of animation of the University of Handicrafts got really close to the possibility of getting the golden statuette.
The story of the "Maestro" – a kind, committed artist - and of his precise and humorous helpmate leads us to a special world both visually and emotionally. There is nobody who can resist their little world- from which the mantle falls down at the end of the film. We trust: they are going to feel this way even in America.
At 25. February let’s root for the the favourite of many of us: for "Maestro" which got two prizes at BuSho 2006!

In addition to the subsidy put at Laci’s disposal for the shooting of Nighttime Visitors they can take part of a screenplay-writer workshop at Moulin d’Andé at the end of January and of the following deservedly famous Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand. BBB triangle (BuSho-Békéscsaba-Bologna)

Tóth Csaba, the star of the Dustmen receives at home Lorenzo Mariani, director of the animated short film entitled I painted the peace in the near future.
As known the makers of the two films got so close during BuSho that they funded the Békéscsaba-Bologna axis. The visit of the Italian artist is a result of this fact. They did not tell details, but our reporters are going to investigate everything: which local traditions, bars (and other places of interest) are going to be visited and adopted by Lorenzo in the Stormy Corner.

WE MOVE! (from #9 to #7)

The Society of BuSho Moving Birds decided to leave Kinizsi. As we had 5-6 offers of possible scenes, we took our satchels and took a look at them! I intentionally do not specify these possibilities: I do not want our public to brood about the chances. After a long consideration, analysis of pros and contras we decided that the new scene is the Cultural Centre of Almássy Square. (1077. Bp. Almássy Squre 6.)

The final schedule of the competition is ready!

The deadline for entries was June 4th 2006.

The number of the entries arrived to the second Busho Short Film Festival was almost twice as much than last year. This caused some difficulties to the pre-jury...
The 100 films which in fine got the possibility to be presented at the Festival last cca. 15 hours and they surely will cause serious headache to the international jury, because they are so excellent that it won’t be easy to choose the films that will get the awards of the international parade at the end. You can find the complete list on Busho 2006 schedule site.
